Workshops with Vincenza Fazzalori

Make your own texture plates, stamps and roulette wheels

Carve, cut and impress patterns, marks and found objects to create your own texture plates, stamps and wheels in plaster, on lino and polystyrene. They’ll be ready for you to use straight away in your ceramic and poly clay creations!

The clay stamps/tiles/roulettes are best if fired first. The clay tiles will be high fired in my kiln, then returned to you, by post, for your ongoing and washable use.

In this work shop you will be shown how to mix plaster, make a roulette wheel to fit a commercial handle, carve lino (double sided flexible sheet), a plaster tile, and clay tiles at the various unfired stages.

Art Deco linocut printmaking and Chine-collé

Be inspired by the work of Erté (referred to as the father of Art Deco). In this work shop you will be guided through the different stages to create and transfer your design onto a lino block, select the appropriate tools to use to achieve various marks and lines, and carve safely.

The second part of the workshop will focus on inking up, ‘loading’ the roller, registration, printing, proofing, and the technique known as Chine-collé to introduce additional colour and surface interest.

By the end of the workshop you ought to have at least 4 finished prints, including one utilizing the technique of Chine-collé, ready to take home and frame!

Duration: 4 hours

Max participants: 6

Difficulty: Beginner. If you can trace a line, you can cut the design! The lino sheets we will be using are the soft type (green and blue) – making it easier to cut and carve safely. You select the design to work with and decide how complex or basic you’d like to make it.
